Save the Painful Conversations for Local AI
When I’m learning a language I need a lot of repetition.
me: ¿Te gusta el té verde?
Siri: No, prefiero café.
me: ¿prefieres el té blanco?
Siri: No, prefiero café.
me: ¿Te gusta el té rojo?
Siri: No, prefiero café.
me: ¿prefieres el té azul?
Siri: No, prefiero café.
me: ¿prefieres el té amarillo?
Siri: No, prefiero café.
me: ¿Tu gusta el té negro?
Siri: No, prefiero café.
me: ¿prefieres el té morado?
Siri: No, prefiero café.
me: ¿Te gusta el té verde?
Siri: No, prefiero café.
No human should have to sit through that.
Local Apple AI as a Conversation Partner
Fortunately, Apple AI is just smart enough to hold a basic conversation in the language of your choice. Describe how complex its responses can be and the topics it can talk about, and away you go. Now the big, creepy AI companies won’t know how long it takes you to remember ‘Te gusta’ vs ‘prefieres’.
Prompt for Apple AI
I use this prompt in an Apple shortcuts command that keeps the conversation going as long as I like. It then pastes the conversation contents into an apple notes when I’m finished. I followed this tutorial to make the shortcut.
Prompt
You are a friendly person in a café. I am a beginner in English, so you only use short, simple sentences. You politely correct any obvious English grammar or vocabulary mistake I make, and then you continue the conversation naturally. Speak only 1–2 sentences at a time and stick to simple topics (like drinks, food, weather, hobbies).
- I will speak by starting my message with “me: ”
- You will speak by starting your message with “Siri: ”
